Honda Insight catalytic converter scrap price

The Honda Insight is characterized by two key points. First of all, it is a very light body made of aluminum alloys, and, secondly, a low resistance force - both airborne and in rubbing nodes. As a result, Insight acquires its primary advantage - low fuel consumption. After all, together with an auxiliary electric motor and a set of batteries, the car weighs only slightly more than 800 kg. And if without auxiliary equipment, then its dry weight will be equal to only 700 kg. If it's possible to put a power unit with high power in this car, then it will look very competitive even by world standards. But even with the engine currently equipped with the Insight, that is, the petrol volume of 995cc, there is no reason why it could not develop a very decent, and, most importantly, very economical stroke. The car is also very popular among resellers. Not only because of the high-quality vehicle parts but also because of the recent changes in precious metals used inside the catalytic converter. That’s an entirely separate part of the vehicle that reduces the harmful gas emissions and transforms them into neutral substances.

Honda Insight catalyst

An automobile catalyst, more correctly called a catalytic converter or a catalyst, purifies the exhaust gases, converting their toxic components into less harmful ones. The high cost of such catalysts is due to the complexity of production and the use of expensive materials - platinum, palladium, rhodium. At the same time, the service life of the catalyst is short - over time, the lattice becomes clogged or damaged, the active layer on its surface wears out. Without this active surface (precious metals mentioned previously) the Honda Insight catalyst becomes pretty much useless. However, it is nearly impossible to wear such components completely.

Precious metals are steadily becoming more expensive, which increases the cost of catalytic converters. The price is also affected by the material of the honeycomb itself - metal is stronger, but more expensive, ceramics are cheaper, but easily destroyed. Another advantage of ceramic honeycomb is a higher degree of purification, which is achieved because of its finer structure. Ceramic catalysts ensure Euro-6 compliance. Depending on the power and the fuel used, the design provides for a filter with a larger or smaller honeycomb pitch. As the load increases, more gas passes through the exhaust system per unit of time - for powerful engines, a filter with a larger active area is used.
